Tonight Head Chef and I went to Gialina Pizzeria in Glen Park for a fabulous appetizer of fried chiles with goat cheese and almonds (delicious), followed by an absolutely amazing Atomica pizza with mushrooms, mozz, spicy chilies, red onions and tomato sauce.
Afterwards, we headed to My New Favorite Place in the World: Humphry Slocombe in the Mission, an ice-cream shop that mixes unusual flavors to get incredible results. After taste testing a few items, including Secret Breakfast (cornflakes and bourbon), Head Chef settled on the Salt n Peppa (Oh No We Didn't) and I got a scoop of the Bluebottle Vietnamese Coffee. Fans of ice-cream, let me just tell you that the ice cream at this small shop is amazing. Salt n Peppa is not as disgusting as it sounds. I can't even explain how wonderfully strange it is. There is a definite strong pepper flavor in there but it's not "hot" per se. Likewise, the Bluebottle Coffee ice cream is as awesome at it sounds. Definitely the best coffee ice cream you will ever have in YOUR LIFE.
Humphry Slocombe, besides having the best name ever, is definitely giving Bi-Rite Creamery (hello, brown sugar ice cream and salted caramel ice cream and the chocolate sundae with Bergamot olive oil and sea salt) near Mission Delores Park a run for its money. But I think the two are tied in terms of ice cream awesomeness--they are similar but not quite.
But tonight, Humphry Slocombe, you win the Ice Cream Battle.
